A Weird List

I realize Thanksgiving was seven days ago, yet I still feel the need to mention the things I’m thankful for.  I mean, what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t list out all the things for which I’m thankful?

Surely I could list all of the usual suspects:  Jesus, family, friends, and such.  Of course I’m incredibly thankful for all of those.  But how ’bout I get a little crazy with my list and head off the beaten path a bit?

Shall we?

What I’m Thankful For In 2010

1. That my dressing came out dry and I burned the rolls.  Trav loves dressing dry.  I don’t.  Making it dry made my husband happy and saved me a few calories. Nobody likes burned rolls, therefore I saved everyone calories.  I’m just looking out for our guests’ arteries.  Never mind the 22 sticks of butter I used in the rest of the dishes.

2. $2 gloves at Old Navy!  It’s freakin’ cold here right now and my fingers were naked.  I was thrilled to find Old Navy is selling dual packs of gloves for only $2!!!  I’m bad at math and all, but I’m pretty sure that comes out to $1 per pair.  Yes, please.

3.  My “Dish Bitch.” That’s what we affectionately nick-named my BFF, Virginia, while she was here last week.  I love to cook, she loves to clean.  We’re a beautiful combo in the kitchen. Oh how I’ve missed her since she hit the road and went back to Texas….Trav refuses to be my Dish Bitch.  So does Arle. Boo.

4.  Honest conversations with dear friends.  I sat and chatted with a friend Tuesday morning.  I teared up as she was so honest and vulnerable about how she’s doing.  I love friends like that.  They keep it real and encourage me to do the same.

5.  Good hair days.  Who ISN’T thankful for good hair days???

6.  The Hot Spiced Tea Mix my mom made while she was here keeping Arle two weeks ago.  I grew up on this stuff each winter.  I still heart it.  And this batch is almost gone.  Here’s a similar recipe if you’re interested.

7.  The Bravo cable channel.  Am I the only one out there who can’t get enough Real Housewives, Top Chef, Rachel Zoe, etc.?  Who’s with me????????

8.  That I live in Kansas City.  I never in a million years thought I would live here and love it.  I definitely thought our stay in KC would be short-lived.  Now I can’t imagine living anywhere else.  Our friends, neighbors, and church family have provided us with the community that I longed for.

9.  Arle’s sense of humor.  I’m convinced that her obsession with the Bideo Show (America’s Funniest Home Videos) has something to do with this.  Whenever she wipes out, she usually laughs instead of cries and then says, ” That should totally be on the Bideo Show!”  If she does actually cry, we know she’s really hurt.

10.  Dora The Explorer.  I can’t believe I just typed that, but seriously…making dinner became a much easier (and quicker) task once I realized that Dora has the ability to totally capture Arle’s attention for 30 minutes each evening while I get grub on the table.  Does this make me a horrible mom?

Now that you think I’m the most shallow person in the entire universe, I ask you, “What random things are YOU thankful for?”  Go on.  Spill it.  We’re all friends here.

Umm.. I am IN LOVE, OOC obsessed with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills AND The Rachel Zoe Project! I feel like we need to discuss both of these over Christmas because I can’t get enough. I mean $60,000 for a 4 year old birthday party?! and I have never wanted someone’s job more than Rachel Zoe (well, and Erin Andrew’s… and.. the Victoria’s Secret Models).. shopping and dressing people for a living? yes please! I die.

I am thankful for blogs. We moved over a year ago and I feel like I’ve been able to keep family and friends informed and in touch of our long distance happenings via the interwebs- not to mention that I’ve been a faithful follower of Momdiggity too!

I am thankful for gals like you who have such entertaining blogs. It means I can procrastinate folding laundry a little bit longer. I am also thankful for The Amazing Race and Project Runway they bring me happiness. I am thankful for The Pioneer Woman. She has made meal time yummier and her blog makes me laugh out loud. I could go on, but that laundry is calling my name!

Yea for being thankful for random things!! My list: 1. COMMAND HOOKS!! 2. David Kahn jeans—they do NOT gap at my waist. Miraculous! 3. Uggs. Ugly and not flattering but oh so warm. 4. The way my kiddos play together. 5. Stevia. No calorie, no yucky chemically stuff sweetener. I don’t leave home without it. 6. Books, books, books. 7. Starbucks. Gingerbread. Latte. Venti. 8. Under eye concealer. Holla! 9. Soft pants. 10. That my mother taught me etiquette, to love Jesus, how to sew, cook, entertain, tie a bow, and broke it to me that I’d probably not have a full-time maid when I grew up so I better learn how to scrub a toilet.

I am ever so thankful for this amazingly loud jet noise over my house during my sweet lilttle man’s nap…simply because it is the sound of freedom…oh and it supports my Christmas shopping habit!
