A First

After more than three years, we finally had our first oh-my-goodness-does-she-need-stitches-moment.

Last Saturday night, we and two other couples were sitting in our living room waiting for the babysitter to come over so we could go to the most fun 30th birthday party I’ve ever attended.

Arle was suddenly taken over by the urge to dance.  Actually, I’m not even sure I should call it dancing because it was much more reminiscent of the moves I imagine you would see at a hard core heavy metal concert.  She was flailing all over the place and soon became dizzy and out of control.

That’s when she somehow fell forward and bashed her head on the entertainment center.  Trav immediately jumped and said something about blood.  The rest of us all jumped up and went into full force triage mode.

She had a decent sized gash on her eyebrow and a small goose egg under her eye.

We went back and forth on whether or not she needed stitches and finally decided she didn’t.  We put some steri-strips on in and it seemed to be fine.  I’m crossing my fingers that it’s not going to be completely jacked up when we take the strips off and that Arle won’t hate us forever for that time that we screwed up her eyebrow.

She was pretty tough through the whole thing.  She only cried for a couple of minutes and other than that the only other time she acted like a drama queen is when Trav asked her to hold a trash bag open for him while he was raking leaves in the yard.

She held the bag for approximately one minute and then declared, “This is really hard to do with a bandage on my eye.”

She’s obviously my daughter because that’s TOTALLY something I would say.

And by the way…yes I have a degree in journalism and know that “old news is no news.”  Yes, this happened last Saturday.  No I haven’t blogged all week.  Don’t know what my deal is.  This was all I had, so just go with it.  K?

look at those eyes! hey, sometimes art has a price. her flailing about cost her a couple drops of blood and i think that she would say that it was worth it.
