Fashion Friday: Student Edition

When I was a kid, I put a whole heck of a lot of thought into my first day of school outfit.  Probably too much thought, but whatev.

Arle’s first day of pre-school was yesterday and she couldn’t have been more excited.  She will joyfully inform you that she’s “a student” now.

Because we live in the mid-west, I couldn’t decide what she would wear on her first day.  I bought a fall outfit two months ago that I wanted her to wear, but knew there was a good chance the weather wouldn’t cooperate with my fashion plans.  If it was going to be 90° outside, she would have roasted in anything but shorts or a sundress and I would have to come up with plan B.

Luckily, Mother Nature played nicely and gave us a nice crisp, cool, rainy day and Arle was able to rock her new knit skinny jeans and her cute little peasant top.

Isn’t she a stylish little thing?

Does it make me a bad mom that I didn’t even cry when we dropped her off?  It’s not that I’m not sad to see her growing up so quickly and all, it’s just that I want to raise my children to be independent and confident and I was so proud that she just marched right in without ever looking back.

I love that she knows she’ll be OK even when I’m not around.

I love that she loves to explore new things.

I love that she’s excited to meet new people.

I’ll go ahead and also confess that I love the fact that I’m going to have a day and a half to myself every week, too.

Is that selfish?

On a totally different note…the jacket that I’m wearing in the above pics is my new love (a bit hard to really see it, I know).  I spotted it at the University of Colorado bookstore when we were in Boulder last month and wanted to give it a good home, but the spending freeze wouldn’t allow it.

Seriously, the CU bookstore carried Joe’s Jeans, Free People, and all sorts of other fab stuff.  If the OU bookstore had carried cute clothes when I was a student I would have NEVER purchased books.

My sweet mother-in-law sneaked away and bought the jacket as my early birthday present when I wasn’t looking and oh my gosh I heart it.  It’s officially my new uniform.  I’ve worn it so much already and don’t plan on stopping any time soon.  A feminine military style jacket was at the top of my to-buy-for-fall list and I was so excited to check it off my list.

Toodles for now.  Have a fab weekend, my friends!

The day DeLane and Tobi went off to school (6 years apart!), all the other moms were weepy…..but….not me. I was WOOHOOOing.
No, we are not bad moms. We’re good moms. We’re just still us.
Dr. Rosemond would be so proud of us!
His thought is that the children are supposed to revolve around the parents,
    not the other way around.
Arle will have a blast at school, and, you may happily enjoy yourself, too.
    The end…

Arle looks perfect! We have much the same philosophy…I want a confident kid who is ready to tackle the next thing. And I am so glad you talked about the jacket because as soon as I saw the picture of the two of you my first thought was…fabulous jacket! :-)
