Happy Early Birthday To Me

At the beginning of this year, Trav and I agreed that 2009 would be a vacation-less year.  Being two people that LOVE to travel, this was tough pill for both of us to swallow.  We had to pour a lot of money into putting our disaster of a yard back together and determined that money would come from our vacation funds.

Some of you may remember when I rebelled against our no-vacation agreement and bid on a trip to Italy a while back and actually won.  After going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth again, we finally decided to not go on the trip.  I received a couple of threatening emails from the company that said I would be banned from their site if I ever pulled a stunt like that again.  Really, they didn’t have anything to worry about…Trav had already banned me from the site.

But here we are, at the beginning of August and we have stuck to our guns on the whole “no vacation” deal.

Or so I thought.

Evidently Travis has been doing some planning on his own.

I had really been pushing for Arle and myself to make a trip out to New Mexico in September to visit our families.  Trav was throwing up some serious resistance at the idea and finally told me why.  He had been planning on surprising me with a trip for my birthday(which isn’t until September).

I HEART my husband.

I HEART him big time. And not just because he surprises me with birthday trips, but he definitely gets brownie points for this sort of thing.

At the time he spilled the beans about the whole thing, he hadn’t officially decided on the destination.  He had narrowed it down to three different spots, and we eventually settled on NYC, even though we’ve been there a few times before.  We absolutely love NY and September is a fabulous time to be there.

A couple days later my friend, Jessie, and I were hanging out and she mentioned that she really wanted to go on vacation.  I told her that Trav and I were planning on going to NY and that she and her husband, Evan, should meet up with us.

She talked to Evan and they decided to jump on the vacay bandwagon.

Once they were on board, we decided to mix things up a bit and go somewhere none of us had ever been.  Trav and I had originally tossed around the idea of going to Napa, but thought it would be more fun to go there with other peeps.  Now that “other peeps” were joining us, we mentioned the idea to Jessie and Evan and we all agreed that would be our destination.

Needless to say, I’m SO EXCITED!!!!!

We’re going on a vacation.

We’re going with some super fun peeps.

We’re going somewhere new.

What more could a birthday girl ask for????

We’re staying at a place called The White House Inn and it looks amazing.  We’re in the process of deciding which wineries we want to visit and which restaurants to eat at.

If you’ve ever been there and have any suggestions, please leave a comment and share your tips with me!

If you guys are going to be in Napa in September, you might want to come up to Apple Hill in Placerville. It’s about 2 hours away from Napa, and it’s really cute. It’s a place where there are quite a few Apple Farms, and some have arts and crafts and such. It starts after Labor Day I think, and goes through December. Let me know if you want more info.
