A Fun Day With A Fun Girl

In an attempt to be a loving and selfless mommy and wife, I agreed to do something extremely out of my comfort zone this past weekend.

I went to the zoo.

Trav would tell you that I hate the zoo, which really isn’t true.  It’s just that there are a couple of things at the zoo that I strongly dislike, such as the smell.

And the animals.

Really, though, I guess the zoo is perfect for someone like me, because I can see the animals without having them touching or licking me.

I probably would have protested the zoo visit had the weather not been absolutely dreamy on Friday.  It was in the low 70s and cloudy, which made for the perfect outing.

As I said yesterday, it’s so much fun to see my girl get excited about things and the zoo is definitely a place where her sweet little face lights up.  Trav and I took her to the zoo in Portland, Oregon last year, but she was only 10-months-old and really didn’t seem all that interested.  Then, on the morning of her birthday party last month, she and Trav went to the KC zoo.  So this really was my first time to see her truly “experience” the zoo.

She loved seeing and talking to all of the stinky animals. 018

If there’s one good thing that came out of my visit to the zoo, it’s that this sea lion reminded me to schedule our dentist appointments pronto.

It’s difficult to see, but there’s a monkey on the other side of the glass in this pic.  Arle was appalled to see that this monkey had pooped in the stream that was running through the exhibit and kept saying, “Monkey, you poop in that water???  No, no!!”  She really wanted to put him in time out, but he wouldn’t cooperate.

As much as Arle loved the animals, her favorite part of the zoo was definitely the train.  Girlfriend loves mass transportation.

After the zoo, something peculiar happened.

Arle slept outside of her crib.  She slept and she slept and she slept.

Chatty Cathy was in the backseat jabbering away about how hungry she was when she suddenly passed out from exhaustion.

Arle falling asleep in her car-seat isn’t that unusual, but she would normally wake up the minute we got her out.

Not so, on this day.

It was already 5:00pm and we didn’t want her to be up late, so we decided to just lay her on the chair in the living room so she would wake up.  We just knew once the TV was on, the phones were ringing, we were talking, etc, that she would wake up.

Not so, on this day.

Since she was around three months old, I only remember one occasion where this child has fallen asleep outside of her crib or car-seat.  She just doesn’t do this.  She absolutely will not sleep if there are activities going on around her.

But she did on this day.

The above sleeping pics are why I LOVE the zoo! We have a family pass for the express purpose of wearing them out! My boys are NOT good sleepers unless you just go go go until they can’t go anymore. Love it!

OK….I think it is so funny how you can’t stand animals and don’t mind telling people! I just knew that when we worked together I could get you to LOVE animals the way I do…… Didn’t happen. BUT, I do think Arle might have a chance. What are you going to do when that sweet little face says “Mommy, I want a puppy” and you get one, fall in love with it and I get to say “I told you so”! I can’t wait :)
