This Little Family Went To Market

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go to farmer’s markets.  For some reason though, we hadn’t gone to a single one until this past weekend.

Arle was sooooo excited when we told her where we were going, even though she had absolutely no idea what a farmer’s market was.  All she heard was “farm” and immediately started asking if there were going to be goats, horses, cows, etc.  I was afraid she was going to be completely disappointed when there were no furry creatures to be found, but she found other things just as entertaining, such as this cute old man that let her play with his puppets.

027I was entertained by all of the nummylicious fruit and veggies that looked so perfectly perfect.

I adore peaches.  They’re definitely my favorite fruit.  I can seriously eat 3-4 peaches a day this time of year.  I also adore peach cobbler, peach ice cream, peach everything.    My favorite peach concoction is a peach milkshake.

What’s that?

You’ve NEVER had a peach milkshake???

Shame on you.

Go get your blender out right now.  Throw in 3-4 scoops of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, one peach with the skin still on (obviously, take the pit out), 1/2 cup of milk, and 1 tsp. of pure almond extract (none of that “imitation” stuff).  Blend and enjoy.

I have absolutely no clue what you do with mustard greens, but they were so pretty I couldn’t resist snapping a pic.

Check out these gorgeous onions.  I love onions.

I also love this cute old farmer that sells onions.  He reminds of my sweet Grandad who’s a farmer back in New Mexico.  Grandad’s the BEST.

The scent of this lavender took me right back to the south of France.  Mmmmmm…..

041Check out all of these yummy looking baked goods these ladies whipped up.

042You can even buy amazing orchids at the market.  Check these out.

It was horribly hot and humid outside so we grabbed some homemade lemonade to help us cool off.

048Then we listened to some guy play a few tunes.

058Arle bought her canine friend, Opal, some treats.

077I really want to go back next week and eat at this adorable little restaurant.  It’s called Succotash and is an open-air eatery.  How could you not want to eat at a place that has a fabulous hot pink chandelier and such an adorable sign??

Good times were had by all.  A big thanks to my two favorite people for escorting me to the market.

I want to go! When is the coolest month with all the wares? Your pictures are beautiful, the colors and action should be featured in a tourism magazine advertising KC. Love.

I am jealous, jealous, jealous! Oh, wait…is it wrong to be jealous? Maybe I should say envious. No, not quite right, either. Hmmm. Guess I’ll just say I really, really wish we had a farmers’ market like that. How awesome! Looks like a fabulous time and a place for me to spend a lot, lot, lot of money!

I might say it would be euphoric to be in a market place like this! Oh my, I would be in some serious trouble if I had a wallet, money in the aforementioned wallet and one day at this place! I think I want to be there! Maybe our farms out here just grow tomatoes, peppers and the ever present squash. Can you build a farmer’s market around three ingredients?

I can also vouch for Succotash! Succotash has a a killer brunch if you are so inclined. But they are built for atmosphere, not for speed.
